After switching my cats from Iams to Castor & Pollux, we decided that it was the dog’s turn. Our three medium sized dogs (all around 45lbs) had been eating Iams Lamb Meal & Rice Formula for about 3 years. Even though Iams is considered a premium food, our concerns were:

    (1) the third ingredient is corn meal and one of the proteins is chicken by-product meal (Chicken by-product meal consists of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice).

    (2) Our dogs were putting on weight despite the fact that they are active dogs, and

    (3) An olfactory-related concern – when resting, the dogs passed gas – a lot of gas!

The gas got us. Even though Castor & Pollux is a more expensive dog food, we decided that it was worth a try. Forty-five pounds of dog food later, I’m happy that we switched because the dogs love the food, their coats are healthy, they are slimming down with no loss of energy, and, best of all, the gas issue is no longer an issue.

Since this information isn’t listed on the Amazon product page, and since ingredients are a main consideration when purchasing pet food, Castor& Pollux Canine Weight Management ingredients are (from the back of the bag):

Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Grain Barley, Oat Groats, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Brewers Rice, Turkey Meal, Rice Protein Concentrate, Dried Beet Pulp, Dried Potatoes, Chicken Fat Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Egg Product, Salmon Meal, Cultured Whey, Dried Carrots, Dried Bananas, Dried Apples, Chicken Cartilage (natural source of Glucosamine & Chondroitin), Ground Flaxseed, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Dried Blueberries, Dried Papaya, Choline Chloride, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, L-Carnitine, Vitamin E Supplement, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Niacin, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganous Oxide, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin K1 Supplement, Sodium Selenite, Folic Acid, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Cobalt Carbonate, Yeast Culture (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae), Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Niger Fermentation Extract, Dried Trichoderma Longibrachiatum Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Extract and Fermentation Solubles.

Each bag has a Best if Used by Date, and comes with an Unconditional Guarantee from the manufacturer.

Our final decision is to stick with this food. Our dogs love it & we love the results. Highly Recommended.

I have a dog who is a very picky eater. I’d been giving her homecooked meals for about three weeks, but the vet said that I should get her something more nutritionally balanced and more geared towards canines. I got this one because it looked like it had good ingredients (i.e. the first ingredient isn’t corn meal) and it was a reasonable price. Normally, my dog won’t eat dry food for nearly two days (no joke) after she’s had homecooked and/or wet food. To my pleasant surprise, she started eating the food within 24 hours. She’s been on it for a couple of weeks now and she doesn’t seem tired of it.

My dogs seem to love this stuff. It is neat to see the dried fruit bits in the mix of this dog food, my dogs love the bits so much they lick the bowl clean to get all the crumbs. Seems to be quite good quality dog food with good ingredients as I checked against many reviews. I will try to stay with this dog food if cost permits as I had originally purchased from Amazon when there was a special discount offer on it.

I am also impressed with the shipping/packing of the dog food. I was worried that would receive bag of dog food that was worn out from shipping but it arrived inside appropriate box and with paper filler for safe shipping of dog food. Very happy!

My dog can be a very picky eater.

She will starve if she doesn’t like her dog food.

This is a food she took to immediately, cleaning out her dog bowl.

I can rest easy knowing she is getting a really good form of nutrition, and that it is very economical.

Buying this product is a win-win for you and your dog.

The ingredients in C&P Weight Maintenance, while not perfect, are far superior to

Science Diet RD & WD. In addition it costs less then SD and Amazon has the best price of any company I’ve found. Science Diet makes nutritionally bankrupt products in all cases. The high cost is so the manufacturer and veterinarian can make a profit. Only a minimal amount of money goes into the product itself. It is like buying Ol Roy with drugs. You are basically feeding your dogs cardboard.

I have a 12 year old golden retriever. I have been feeding him Happy Hips treats for almost a year hoping the glucosamine helps with his arthritis. He eats the treats like crazy. I like the fact they are apple, banana, chicken and sweet potato. They are healthier than store bought treats. I have the same hope for the chicken & oats dry dog food. This dog food came the other day, I cut the bag open to dump it into a plastic tub and by mistake I tipped it over a little and some of it went scattered all over the floor. Well, my dog with the arthrtis jumped right up and cleaned up the floor in no time, tried sticking his head in the bag and then wagged his tale licking my face. If this is as good as the treats, I know it will help with his arthritis. Amazon is the cheapest I have found for this food, plus the free shipping is a bonus. I bought mine when Amazon had a 20 percent promotion so it was an added bonus. Thanks Dogswell and Amazon.

Because of allergies to wheat and corn I decided to give Dogswell products a try. This is the first dry dog food my dogs will eat without adding gravy or meat or veggies or leftovers and they do so eagerly. It smells good enough for me to eat and they haven’t scratched since they started on this product. Amazon’s price is cheaper than I can get locally so not only is the food good, it’s a bargain at that. I love you Amazon!

Our dog kept shedding really bad so we switched to this food and it has basically stopped her shedding! We love the price of it since we have a large dog and go thru a bag a month. We will recommend this dog food to others.

Our “senior” dog quit limping around(arthritis) after a week or so of eating this stuff! Plus the bits are a good size, like marbles, not too big like some foods we’ve bought in the past.
