Do I have a case against my veterinarian?

Question by Kyle C: Do I have a case against my veterinarian?

I took my 6 month old English bulldog to get spayed. I picked her up at 5:15pm. i was home with my puppy by 5:45. Around 6pm my puppy started hyperventilating. I called my vet @ 6:05. They told me the DR. was busy and he would call me back. I waited a half hour, no call. I called back and told him the symptoms. “My dog is hyperventilating and her gums are as white as her teeth.” he responded- Well we drugged her up pretty good & thats all normal, we wouldnt have let her go if she wasnt ok. Not convinced I called the animal hospital and explained the same symptoms. They said bring her in now. We were admitted no later than 7pm, to find out that our puppy has a lung full of fluid and might not live through the night. She has made it, but is currently in the hospital and has been for four days now. Should the vet that preformed the operation take responsibility and cover the hospital cost? Is this something that can be taken to small claims? What would i need for a case?

I don’t know the legalities of it, nor do I know the cause, but I would make sure the vet that performed the operation covered the cost of your emergency vet visit.
